Alien: Inferno

The year is 2193. The United Americas, the socialist Union of Progressive Peoples, and the Three World Empire, the three hyperpowers of Earth, are currently locked in a cold war that spans all of human space and the territories of the three powers, while the Independent Core System Colonies are focused primarily on retaining their independence. Concurrently, huge multinational entities such as Seegson, Chigusa Corporation, Lasalle Bionational, and Weyland-Yutani Corporation are all playing their own games, pulling their own strings, and are often using these hyperpowers and their resources to do it.

And those games often involve extraterrestrial life.

In 2093, a science expedition was sent to LV-223 in the Zeta Reticuli star system to uncover proof of intelligent life beyond Earth. Nearly every member of the expedition of the USCSS Prometheus was lost after a disastrous encounter with a virulent alien pathogen, with Doctor Elizabeth Shaw and the android David going missing.

In 2122, the crew of the USCSS Nostromo stumbled across an alien lifeform on LV-426 in Zeta Reticuli that parasitically impregnated executive officer Thomas Kane. The resulting embryo, after growing inside Kane and lethally bursting out of his chest, killed all but the android crewmate Ash, who was destroyed by the remaining crew after attempting to capture the creature to bring back to Weyland-Yutani, and third officer Ellen Ripley, who went missing after placing herself in hypersleep on the Nostromo’s shuttle.

Fifteen years later, in 2137, Ripley’s daughter Amanda, when attempting to recover the flight recorder of the Nostromo, encountered the same kinds of lifeforms as her mother had on Sevastopol Station in Zeta Reticuli. As with her mother before her, she was the only survivor of this incident.

In 2179, Ellen Ripley’s lifeboat was recovered and she was incentivized to return to LV-426 due to an infestation of those same aliens having overtaken the planet’s small terraforming colony of Hadley’s Hope, arriving with a force of Colonial Marines on the USS Sulaco. The entire contingent was lost, while Ripley once again survived, landing on the prison planet Fiorina 161 in the Neroid Sector that same year and ultimately committing suicide after being impregnated in cryosleep in order to keep the aliens that continuously haunted and hunted her out of Weyland-Yutani’s clutches, so as to stop them from bringing such horrific monstrosities to Earth and possibly dooming the human race.

All of these incidents, all of these losses, were ultimately covered up by Weyland Corp (and later, Weyland-Yutani). But to the elites-- the top shareholders and officers and scientists of the various powers of the human race-- rumors have spread through corporate intrigue, word of mouth, and a banned book written by the only inmate who survived the Fiorina 161 incident. Rumors of a weapon, a living weapon, so relentless and dangerous as to be nearly unstoppable. To capture, tame, and train such a creature would bring one unimaginable power… and unimaginable profit.

A quiet scramble has begun. Companies, nations, and military leaders who are in the know about the species known as Xenomorph XX121, and heedless of the incredible danger it poses, are eager to obtain specimens of it for their own uses. Apocalypse cults have sprung up around the species, believing it to be a scourge of whatever god or gods exist that is meant to “wipe the slate clean”. The specter of whatever else lies out in the void of space looms ominously over an ignorant humanity. And billions of normal, innocent, oblivious people across the stars are caught between it all.

Space is cold. Space is vast. Space is dark. And space is not your friend.

Because in space, no-one can hear you scream.

Hello, and welcome to Alien: Inferno! At the time of this writing, this RP is small and will be contained to a single thread located on the planet LV-728 (also called “Elysium”): a young colony world that has recently gone dark. The story involves multiple parties on this world, investigating why the colony of Hawking’s Rest has gone silent… and needing to fight for their lives as the secrets hidden on this seemingly-pleasant planet come to a horrifying light.

Let's all have fun, hunt some bugs, and if this proves successful then maybe we can expand the story later!
