Advanced Technology?: ---

Model/Name: Project Genesis Prototype - Advanced Biodroid Organism 6-7

Affiliation: N/A, designed by Professor Kayar Noth and funded by Kamino geneticists

Ownership: N/A

Intent: A genetically-unique creature, born of circumstances it had no control over, to be used as a character completely blank and thrown into the hectic nature of the galaxy.

Type: Artificially Generated Organism

Power Supply: ABO 6-7 is designed to maintain functionality as much as possible. It is capable of adapting its outer cells to absorb sunlight, radiation, excess heat, electricity, and other sources of readily available energy to maintain its functions. Reduced temperatures will cause advanced systems to slow, until such a point where ABO 6-7 will enter a hibernation-like state until more energy can be processed.

Sensors: In addition to basic life-form senses (touch, taste, smell, sight, sound), ABO 6-7 is designed to pick up electromagnetic frequencies, heat signatures, infrared, and certain radio frequencies by way of its highly advanced and adaptable composition of Situation-Adaptive Polycells (explained in composition).

Size:
Pre-Activation/Before Full Maturation- 1.2 meters tall (Head to toe, flat-footed), 2.1 meters long (head to end of tail, stretched out)

After Full Maturation- 1.6 meters tall (head to toe), tail length is ~1.1 meters.

Composition: ABO 6-7, like the others in Project Genesis, is designed with a new and miraculous type of synthetic substance known as the Situation-Adaptive Polycell. SAPs are effectively STEM-cells, but more robust and able to maintain operation as multiple types of cells simultaneously, if given the right programming from a nervous-system. Because of the similarities to technological systems and organic nervous systems, the ABO line of biodroids was designed to test the capabilities of the polycells in different ways. SAPs are capable of being altered by the ABO nearly immediately, allowing the creation of particular organs and systems within its body when needed.

Description: The Advanced Biodroid Organism is a humanoid synthetically-generated creature. It possesses two legs, which end in feet, and two arms, which end in hands, as well as a head and a long, prehensile tail. In its base state, ABO 6-7 appears as a pale human-like figure, with soft features and other bodily aspects (wide hips and a slightly pronounced chest) that indicate it to being classified as female. It typically possesses a set of eyes which are all black, a nose, a mouth with a .3 meter-long tongue, ears, and a head of "hair" which is comprised of feather-like feelers which can raise and lower (ruffling when raised) to allow it to sense other sensory spectra not covered by the other features. Due to its composition, ABO 6-7 can manipulate aspects of its appearance such as pigmentation, internal and external organs, and certain bodily dimensions (within a small scale, as it cannot create new matter, only regenerate through consumption of energy and biomass).

As it does not possess or require internal organs, the specimen can withstand damage greater than that of most near-human and alien life. It also maintains a computer-like awareness and balance of all sensory information, allowing it process its surroundings and situation very quickly.

ABO 6-7, like the other Genesis specimens, is first awakened in a pre-mature state. In this state, it possesses longer feet, which end in more finger-like toes to allow for better maneuverability in strange and uneven environments. After a period of several weeks, and with the consumption of energy and biomass, ABO 6-7 will reach a matured state, with more control over bodily manipulations beyond simple reflex and instinct.

[PRIVATE DOCUMENTATION OF - "Professor Kayar Noth"]

[Date- [REDACTED], 49 ABY, 0300 HOURS]

[Location- [REDACTED]]

[BEGINNING RECORDING]

In view of the recording lens, a slim human woman, her hair and eyes showing signs of age, but signs of self-care as well, adjusts her place in her seat. Her coat is properly made up and buttoned, her posture attentive. She looks with great consideration ahead at the lens.

"This is the full report of Kayar Noth, on the Genesis Project--"

She sighs, and shakes her head.

"I don't even know what to say..."

[PAUSING RECORDING - 0320 HOURS]

[RESUME RECORDING - 0321 HOURS]

"This is the full report of Project Genesis. The report that you won't find anywhere on Kamino. I... I know it won't seem important to you, at first, but--"

Another sigh.

[PAUSING RECORDING - 0321 HOURS]

[RESUME RECORDING - 0350 HOURS]

Her labcoat was more opened now. A few locks had escaped her tight hairdo.

"Project Genesis began as a joke. One could call it a genetic researchers dream. 'Build a better bacta'. That was the idea that began everything, as Professor Emnin phrased it. The practical applications of the original SAP samples were already something we had celebrated. But there was always more to do. As we streamlined the process of manipulating the SAP's, getting them to regenerate faster, and shaping them, the main issue was automating the process.

I don't want to clutter this log with the information I already left in the other one about Muse. Our 'mother' program, Muse was able to provide the tones and signals to the Genesis embryos while they were in the tanks. She's the reason the project got as far as it did. Now... Genesis itself...

We had already experimented again and again with SAP grafting. Building droid endoskeletal frames, and applying the polycells to them. We could use Muse to program the droids to create all sorts of 'skins' for the droids. But even with as advanced as Muse was at the time, they were little more than more convincing, more versatile human replica droids. We weren't in the business of improving what was already there. At least, I wasn't.

We were trying to create something truly new. The tools were right in front of us, the SAP's, Muse... We had the funding already. That wasn't why we kept Genesis a secret for so long... We--"

Her head shakes, and she runs a hand through her hair.

[PAUSING RECORDING - 0352 HOURS]

[RESUME RECORDING - 0402 HOURS]

"Six prototypes. The full batch, under the classification Advanced Biodroid Organism. Specimens six-dash-one through six. We started off with six-dash-one and six-dash-two at the same time. Muse provided the basis, letting us funnel in the signals and replicated neuro-synchroses to mature the embryos. In a sense, Muse has to teach the cells how to develop. I was able to program her to read organic, chemical expressions and 'instinct'... It made the SAPs less erratic. At least, that was the idea.

Six-dash-two was the first loss. Emnin wanted to speed up our process... Even the slightest influx of additional energy beyond what Muse was giving it caused the mass of SAPs to 'glitch'. The cells split off too many times in some places, not enough in others. Some sections decayed, others simply grew improperly... All five of us agreed to terminate it. Six-dash-two didn't even have a brain yet. It didn't make me feel any more comfortable."

A hard exhale comes through her nostrils, her head leans forward to rest her elbows on the table.

"By the time we reached the... 'end' of the Genesis programs, we had developed a 'base'. Something we could expect from any future iterations of SAP-composed life. ABO six-dash-three, six-dash-four, and six-dash-five, all made it fully out of the embryo stage. With the five of us, we worked quickly... Muse saved us so much time. I miss her.

It was... around this time that the section leaders took notice. When Narum Ka..."

Shes scowls, shaking her head.

[PAUSING RECORDING - 0409 HOURS]

[RESUME RECORDING - 0438 HOURS]

"Designing the SAPs to function with electronics was child's play. It was a waste of time... But it was the only way to keep the project working. Overseer Ka wanted a 'practical application'..."

A scoff, her coat was no longer on her form.

"You can give life a practical application, you long-necked rancor-taint... We did it, for all the good it does. Delayed the birthday for six-dash-three through dash-five for nearly two months...! But it kept us running. I'm still glad to this day that Narum wasn't there to see the birthday..."

Several minutes pass, her eyes not meeting the lens.

"We were idiots. I was an idiot. How could we have missed imprinting... How could we be so wasteful! Up until that point, Muse had handled all of the genetic instinct and programming. The SAPs were adaptable, sure, but they weren't passively programmed... at least not enough to function without Muse singing to them...!"

Another minute.

"I felt like we had lost... so much more. It was... child-shaped, Muse was running our bipedal programs... there were no features on it, but that... didn't matter.

Two more weeks with the remaining specimens in tanks. Two more weeks of regrowing the SAPs with new ones, ones we had programmed with autonomy, similar to Muse. It made the imprinting and artificial 'instinct' they'd need to properly live. Narum was coming by more frequently. Two days after six-dash-three was... stillborn, was when he first showed up. He didn't contribute anything, but he watched... He picked and picked at the project. All of us agreed to give him no more than we could help... I began running the schematics and programs, saving them on my datapad, for my own project. For... you."

[PAUSING RECORDING - 0457 HOURS]

[RESUME RECORDING - 0512 HOURS]

"The Genesis specimens were identical, and nearly perfectly inline with the program goals. One-point-two meters tall. Two-point-one meters in length. They could be manipulated with Muse's input, and were working towards being 'trained' with commands.

It took everything I had not to twist Narum's neck during the 'training' sessions. I don't-- Or... I didn't, at the time, know what I wanted to call the specimens... But they weren't pets. They weren't animals... They were, if anything, the closest thing to children we spent time around. By now, I had told the others my plan. About the prototype.

We received a date from Narum. Imperial scientists, and some of their military members, would be coming to observe the results of Genesis. Of the specimens."

Her expression is more blank than ever. No emotion twinges her words.

"SAPs don't decay normally. The cells are incredibly resilient, and stubbornly restore themselves when they're properly nourished. Combine that with their durability and considerable lifespan, and the organisms could maintain themselves for a length of time we never fully calculated.

ABO six-dash-four and six-dash-five didn't suffer from an 'unexpected cellular decay'. Muse was programmed with a failsafe. A last song she could sing any of her creations. A lullaby. The ABO containment cell was the first audience to it. I left with all of the samples I could, I cleared all the files and data from our personal data-stores... I loaded up Jennida's ship with one more containment pod, and anything else that wasn't nailed down. I hadn't left the system before I started work. Before I began my last prototype.

None of Muse's programs for near-human genetic imprinting were individualized. They were basic, functional processes to program into the specimens to achieve their shape and action, but this meant the ABO's were identical from the start. We had never tested... a subject's unique DNA structure, using Muse to imprint individuality onto an SAP organism, even in small scale tests.

By now, I was on my own. Secluded out of the reach of the Empire or the Republic... But I kept my ear to the ground. Kamino had sent word along all the channels it could. A part of me kind of liked the idea of being this... wanted woman. This rogue scientist... but it faded quickly as I worked. I was the only one who could ensure that all of our work, all of the good we could accomplish, wasn't wasted...

You were my way of doing it. You aren't like the other ABO's. Muse was able to take aspects of my genes, along with some inputs I customized, to make you something truly unique."

A pained smile takes her face. Her hand reaches to stop the recording, but falters, and she sighs.

"Your composition is more complex than any of-- Anything-- before you. You have instinct, and faculty... agency. You are the child that this project set out to create. The progeny of myself, and of the minds and hearts I grew close to. All the resources we had, my life's work, to create something beautiful and new. You.

I have... I've reached the end of my knowledge, six-dash-seven. With your pre-maturation growth complete, I'm in uncharted territory. Narum's likely hired several people to come find me. To take me back to Kamino, to give him what he wants. And that's okay. He can do whatever he likes to me, because there is no way in the void between stars that I'm letting him get you."

She runs a thumb over her tear-duct. It is easy to see the wetness around her eyes.

"When you see this, I wonder what kind of person you'll be... I wonder if I'll ever get to see for myself. Wouldn't that be something?"

[RECORDING ENDED]

Those who interact with Temperance for even small lengths of time become very clearly educated on the kind of woman she is. Analytical, logical, and dictated by the facts before her to an almost immoral degree. She weighs the pros and cons of most every situation she's involved in, carefully picking and choosing her actions by the metric of whatever will bring her closest to her goals. Her sense of humor is rather ironic and more than a little grim, but she rarely indulges in such flights when the prospect of research and development for her aims is at hand. Temperance views the lengths of "impossibility" and "morality" as words used by the cowardly masses to prevent the power of progress. This cold outlook actually goes fairly well into her ability to read people; by understanding the nature of emotions themselves, she can gather a large amount of information by the actions they take around her, even if she herself keeps her own emotions well below the surface, where they can't interfere with her work.
