Days in the Dark

When you are born without sight, the world is always in darkness. There is no light, not even the concept of it. And then, something else stirs. The pulse and thrum of an ever present energy, with large focused points moving about within its flow. This perception becomes the sight of all Miralukans, and can be a truly useful tool, when honed through years of rigorous training. Veresa, even at the time of her birth, was marked as an interesting child. Down the entire length of her right arm, a series of black angular slashes marred the pale skin, spelling out her fate before she even knew what the word meant. Her training began as soon as she could walk, in both martial and academic arts. When she was old enough, she was sent to the Sith, for despite her outward stoicism, Veresa harbored a deep, burning hatred for injustice caused by inaction. While among the Sith, she displayed an interesting adeptness with Force-enhanced sound projection, training to the point where she could kill with a harsh whisper, thus earning her the title "The Dirge". For her voice is the last mournful thing you hear before death.

It's been said that, when Darth Revan first disappeared, it sent a ripple through the Force, and every force sensitive tied to him or of significant power felt it. Veresa was asleep in her quarters, enjoying her new surroundings since joining the ranks of the Sith Warriors, when she suddenly felt as it a great beacon in the force was just...voided. As if it had not even been. She sat bolt upright in bed, her hands clutching her head as her voice rang out with a resounding 'NO!', her shout tinged with the Force, shaking her room and echoing through the force to those within the compound. When someone came to investigate, they found her getting ready to leave, saying simply that a great light has just been snuffed out, and that she will hunt those responsible. Even if it took her eternity, she would find them and bring them forth vengeance upon them. When one of the gathered tried to stop her, Veresa uttered the smallest whisper in reply, but this whisper was so laden with the Force, it knifed through the air with such power and speed it seared the air along its path and exploded the unfortunate fool's head. There was no argument after that, not even from her instructors, she was so strong in the Force in that moment. She has not looked back since that day, her senses and powers always tuned to listen for even a hint of Revan's return.

Imagine her surprise when she finally felt it...

A Cold Day in the Outer Rim

Unfortunately for her, the Force often has other plans for those who think themselves masters of their own fate, and she would come to learn that she was no different from those who came before. While journeying between planets via her own ship, The Sonata, she felt something pull her in the direction of what her maps told her was empty space, and decided to change course to head toward the mysterious pull she felt. It almost felt...familiar...to her. As if the one she sought had once touched the place, and left his own mark upon it before once more vanishing into the void. So she headed toward it, the ship's scanners telling her that there was in fact a large planet out there, well before her own special form of sight allowed her to 'see' it. It absolutely glowed to her, with the kind of power she had no doubt Revan would have sought in his quest to end the Jedi and the Republic. "Beautiful," she softly murmurs, gazing upon the life-force of the planet before her, despite the ship's scanners telling her it was a frozen world. She didn't care. She knew he had been here, she could feel the touch of his power lingering on the planet's own despite how faint it was.

As the Sonata approached, the planet finally appeared in full view for her only crew, her own personal assassination droid that she found and had rebuilt some time ago, to act as pilot and sparring partner. "Querying Statement: A frozen, dead world. Mistress, are you certain you will go down? Perhaps it would be best if I went to investigate instead," came the voice of HK-42, the droid's programmed loyalty making her smile briefly. "No, HK, you stay here with the ship. If I don't come back in a few days, assume the worst and get yourself and the ship out of here," she replies, donning her thicker robes and readying herself for the environment planetside. She once more turns to 'look' at the planet, saying "he was here, HK. I can feel it. I have to know why. There's a facility near the equator, for who knows what. That's where I'll start looking." "Resigned Answer: Very well, Mistress. I will wait here until the stated period has expired. Good Hunting."

Once the Sonata landed on the facility landing pad and dropped her off, she quickly makes her way inside, the Force guiding her as she entered the abandoned place and searched for any sign of who she sought. As she explores, she comes to realize that the facility is still very much active, though she had yet to sense any living beings wandering the surprisingly climate controlled halls and corridors. That soon changed however, as she came to a rather large metal door that looked to be the way into the deeper parts of the complex, and a rather rude door-bot snaked out from the wall next to it, demanding she identify herself or be subject to vaporization. Sighing, she flicks her arm out and grabs the door-bot by its long-ass neck, then brings it close to her eyeless-face as she pulls her hood down, saying simply "I AM SITH," before releasing her grip on the bot.

The door promptly opens, the bot meekly apologizing and retreating back into its storage hole as she gives a mild huff, then wanders through the door into the facility proper. As she entered, several different individuals suddenly approached her, all of whom she sensed to be in various levels of distress. She couldn't see their physical forms, but she could read the way the Force moved through them, and focused in varying strengths within them. The most vibrant of them spoke first, asking what they did to receive the honor of a personal appearance from a Sith, and if there was anything they could do to help her find what she sought here. Nodding, she replies, "I'm looking for someone. A Sith, who came to this place some time in the past. Do you know of the one I speak?" They all looked to each-other as if considering their answer, then another of them answered, "do you mean Lord Revan? He was the one who ordered this place to be built here. Gave us the resources and the means to conduct our research into better cryogenics."

"Show me," she orders, her eagerness quite obvious in her tone of voice. She knew it. He had been here. Revan had ordered this place to be constructed, but for what purpose beyond what he told these researchers? There had to be something else here, she mused to herself as she was given a tour. Something powerful. She could almost feel something...dark, sleeping beneath the thick ice of the planet's surface. But it was being concealed or interfered with. Like something in the Force was obscuring her senses just enough to hide whatever it was lurking below.

She was so distracted by what she couldn't sense, that she didn't notice until it was nearly too late that she had been led into a rather hastily prepared trap, the researchers who had been with her were nowhere to be found, and there appeared to be some kind of...tube...in the middle of the room. Cursing under her breath, she chides herself for being so distracted by her perceptions again. "I hope you can forgive us for our bit of deception, Dirge," come the voice of the one who originally spoke to her, over a speaker somewhere in the room with her, making it clear they knew who she was, "but our orders from Lord Revan were very clear. Anyone who comes across this facility, Sith or not, must not leave it. So, we give you a choice. You can die from exposure as we shut off the environmental control to that room and it drops below freezing within minutes, or...you can enter the new prototype cryostasis pod in that room with you, and aid in our continued research into prolonged cryogenic stasis. You have one minute to decide."

She ponders her options very briefly, her senses doing little to help her find any other means of escape at this moment, and her training means little against the thick blast doors she could sense sealing her in. Sighing in resignation, she turns her head toward the cryo-pod, replying "very well. If Revan himself gave the order, I cannot go against it. But know this: if I ever regain consciousness while you all live, there will be no place in the universe safe from me and my wrath." With one last check of her robes and equipment, including her lightsabers, she walks to the cryo-pod and calmly steps inside, the door soon closing and sealing her within it. "We'll keep that in mind," was the last thing she remembers hearing, before the cold and dark took her.

And there she would remain, through the fall of the Old Republic and the rise/fall of the Empire. A frozen relic of a by-gone age. Waiting to return.

The plan is to get someone interested in bringing her into a plot, and getting some poor sap to unthaw her. She's not going to be happy, so anyone waking her is...at risk. At the least. XD

Also, who wouldn't want an Old Rep era Sith on their side? Put any modern Sith to shame. ;D

I'm incredibly curious to see where you'll go with this character. Rebuild the Sith? Try to make her own Empire? Fuck off to Tatooine and sell bottled bath water? Who knows?

Tbh, I hadn't really considered what to do with her, other than, "wake up angry, eat some Force, murder" repeat until she runs into something bigger than her.
